Add a touch of coastal style to any vignette with this set of two vintage shell boxes.A take on the shellcraft of sailor’s valentines of the 19th century, these decorative boxes were thought to be made on the island of Barbados and purchased by sailors to bring home to loved ones after a voyage at sea. Both of these pieces have been well-loved and would make a lovely addition (or start) to a shell box collection.
In overall very good condition for their vintage age, both boxes have some areas of shell loss/breakage as shown. Minor wear to the red fabric lining is consistent with age and prior use.Wear to both lids’ fabric “hinges” including a small tear where attached to the box making them less stable.
Approximate dimensions: Round box measures 4 inches in diameter; 1 ¾ inches high including lid. Heart-shaped box measures 2 ¾ inches wide; 2 ½ inches deep; 1 ½ inches high including lid.
